A Pop of Color

I’ve been hustling to show you this, but it’s not easy finding blogging time during the school week with children demanding attention, homework, swim lessons and food at regular intervals.

My sister-in-law just flew in from the golden state and I’m hosting a play date. She also has a small person of her own, so I thought it would be fun to dress up the place for an afternoon of girl talk and babies, babies, babies!

Materials: Fabric, Food Coloring, Clear Fishing Wire, Paper Towels, Gloves, Trash Bags

Step 1: Add 1/2 cup of boiling water to 1 tsp of vinegar and fifteen drops of food coloring.

Step 2: Gather your fabric pieces (I used strips) and place two at a time into your bowl. Let dye soak into the fabric for five to ten minutes depending on how much of a pop you want.

Step 3: Once the fabric is finished soaking up the dye, squeeze out the excess dye. Lay each strip out on a trash bag covered with a layer of paper towels. This step requires rubber gloves.

Step 4: Allow them to dry overnight. Once dry, tie loose knots evenly throughout the length of the strip leaving enough space to tie the last knot onto the fishing wire. Make sure to measure the length of fishing wire you’ll need prior to tying the final knot.  This step requires gloves.

* Please keep in mind the food coloring is not a permanent dye and will bleed.

Happy Thursday!
